Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use clothing that is stretched out or torn?
All material salvaged from your clothing is specially prepared with a fusible backing so that it will no longer stretch. This process will also help to fill any holes and stop any runs. Some shirts are so well loved and worn that they just can't be left out of your quilt.
How will my quilt be laid out?
A great deal of time is spent arranging your shirts and selecting the sashing color to ensure the most attractive layout and color combination for your quilt. We take great care to ensure the t-shirt design is aligned correctly, centered and straight. This is what makes the difference between an attractive looking quilt and one that looks off center and crooked. Unlike any other quilting company, we will provide you with a "swatch card" with the actual fabric that will be used in your quilt before work begins. If any of the fabrics don't meet with your approval, they can easily be substituted at no extra charge.
What other materials will be used in my quilt?
Premium 100% cotton fabric is used in my quilts for the sashing, backing and binding. I offer both cotton or polyester batting for either a high loft or low loft feel. Many other t-shirt quilt companies charge extra for fabric or require you to provide your own fabric. My price includes the sashing, batting, backing fabric - everything but your clothing and memories!
How are the quilts bound?
Your quilt is finished with a double folded fabric binding that is stitched to the back of the quilt by hand! The edges of your quilt are subject to wear and this type of binding is very neat and more durable than a single layer binding or most machine applied bindings.
Can I get a custom design or layout?
We can accommodate most special requests for custom work very easily. If you have a special request for a particular quilt pattern, use of special materials or personalization, I can accommodate almost any request.
Can I include a personalized message on my quilt label?
All quilts include a quilt label on the back side which can include your special message, such as a dedication, To/From, a poem, special date or whatever information is important to you. We offer this at no additional charge, just indicate what you would like on your order form.
I have custom blocks I would like assembled in a quilt, can you do that?
If you have personalized blocks, or non-garment items you would like included, we can almost always accommodate your requests. We can design signature quilts, with either blank or pre-signed blocks, and can include digital photographs if desired.
How do I order a quilt?
All you need to do is fill out the order form and send it with your clothing. A deposit of half the final price is due before work will begin on your quilt. Once payment is received, I will send you a "swatch card" which contains swatches of additional fabric that will be used in your quilt. Upon your approval of these fabric choices, work will begin on your quilt. The remaining balance is due before your quilt is shipped.
How do I care for my new quilt?
Unless your quilt is soiled, a good airing out is usually all that is needed to freshen your quilt. In general, your quilt can be washed in the machine and dried in the dryer - with care.
Be sure the check the clothing used in your quilt. If there are garments in your quilt that can not be washed - you may want to have your quilt dry cleaned. If there are dark colors against light colors take care not to use hot water. You even may want to consider dry cleaning your quilt if this is the case.
Set your machine to the gentle cycle, fill the wash machine with cold water and immerse your quilt in the water. Use a minimum amount of gentle laundry detergent. When the cycle is complete, remove your quilt promptly.
You may put your quilt it in the dryer, again, use a low dry temperature setting. If you line dry your quilt, hang it with the backside out to protect the shirts from fading. While still damp, your quilt can be put into the dryer to fluff it.
